Socrate+, the enterprise resource planning program developed by BIT Software is used in all the six Cărtureşti bookstores in Bucharest, Timişoara and Iaşi. The commercial activity of the bookstores is managed with Socrate, through the Sales, Acquisitions, Stock Management and Treasury modules. The modules are integrated with POS terminals, which ensures the achievement of quick and correct sales.
Socrate+ has sucessfully met all the specific requirements of its client's activity. Thus, a feature of the bookstores is the large number of items, entering the stock in small quantities and being kept for a short time (new books, tapes and CDs arise every week). The solution adopted for the management of this large volume of items consists in the use of a document management system that takes over the information received from suppliers as appropriately formatted files. Another requirement is the drawing up of supplier sales reports that should bring the correct sales information even if the respective product went through several reception/transfer processes in different locations of the system.Ms. Nicoleta Dumitru, General Manager of Direct Client Services, administrator of Cărtureşti bookstores explains: "The retail of books and multimedia products has a few particularities as regards the management of stock and sales which creates the need of a high-quality IT program: over 40.000 items, a few hundred suppliers, different methods of price determination, the quick rhythm of emergence of new titles (which makes the database increase daily), adding to this the subjective features of the cultural product (different life cycles for similar products, the importance of novelty, of information, socio-cultural influences and trends). Thus the correct business decision can be made only by using an adequate IT program. The Socrate enterprise resource planning system was chosen on the opening of the second Cărtureşti bookstore; the network already comprises 6 bookstores, plus a central warehouse serving them and the system is obviously very useful. Another strong point of the system and of the team of specialists of Bit Software is the flexibility and availability of adapting reports and functionalities to the specific requirements of our activity".
